Our tamariki (children) are the future kaitiaki (guardians) of Aotearoa New Zealand. We empower students in local schools to make a difference through hands-on environmental education. Through practical learning, they build a strong connection to te taiao (the natural world), develop a sense of responsibility, and gain the confidence to lead positive change in their communities.

Our school trapping program currently involves 10 schools and focuses on controlling rats, mice and hedgehogs. If you’d like to learn more please see the “How do we get involved?” section below or email us at schools@predatorfreericcarton.org.nz.
With the help of donations and koha, we’re able to provide traps to schools at no cost. We usually begin by visiting the school to figure out how many traps could be hosted and to chat with students who are interested in getting involved. We are very flexible and shape our program to meet the needs of each school.
We provide traps, a carrying caddy and monitoring equipment to schools in our program, as well as support for our teachers and students. Schools usually provide bait, gloves and a device for logging trapping data, but if this is a barrier, please get in touch. We also appreciate schools supporting our mahi by sharing notices in their school newsletters.
