Our goal is to create an environment that promotes the growth and diversity of our native species. The wider Riccarton community includes green spaces, such as Riccarton Bush and corridors bordering tributaries of the Avon River, which could form sanctuaries for our native species to thrive, but this isn’t possible with current pest populations. We are striving to make change, this starts in the backyards of our community.

By reducing pest populations, planting trees and education, we hope to start restoring balance to the local ecosystem and create a safer environment for native species to thrive. This means more native birds like Pīwakawaka (Fantail), Korimako (Bellbird), Kererū (NZ Wood Pigeon) returning to our backyards and reserves. This will also support native insects like Wētā and butterflies, as well as reptiles that are highly vulnerable to predation.

Anyone can get involved in backyard trapping — no experience needed. Join your neighbours in creating a safer environment for our native species, right from your own garden.

We work with local schools to empower the next generation of kaitiaki. Students learn about ecosystems, pest control, and native species while taking real action to make a difference.

Get involved in local planting days, restoration work, and community conservation efforts. Real change happens when communities come together.
